Kennesaw police present updated crime-reporting format; small increases in certain offenses

The Kennesaw Police Chief briefed the City Council on an updated crime-reporting format and recent incident counts, saying the department’s analyses now use the National Incident-Based Reporting System.
"This better reflects, through what we have seen in changes 3 or 4 years ago from UCR to NIBRS," the chief said while presenting the new layout used to summarize extended Group A offenses.
The chief highlighted several category-level changes for January: intimidation increased by nine incidents, simple assaults decreased by seven, and narcotics/drug cases rose by 12, producing a net +21 in the listed categories compared with the prior period. The report also cited 695 dispatch calls, 1,348 self-initiated cases, 576 traffic citations, 788 warnings and 86 arrests. Accident figures included 87 property-damage accidents and 17 accidents with injuries; hit-and-run counts were also noted.
Council members thanked the chief for the revised report format; one councilmember said, "Like that new formula. Alright." The chief did not propose new policy during the briefing; the presentation was informational and no formal action was taken.
