Board grants Onslow County temporary construction easement at Sandridge Elementary for new fire station work

At the Onslow County Board of Education meeting, staff asked the board to grant Onslow County a temporary construction easement on school property adjacent to Sandridge Elementary School to support construction of a new county fire station.

The request stems from a prior board action. At its April 9, 2024 meeting the board voted unanimously to donate a three-acre parcel on the grounds of Sandridge Elementary School to Onslow County for construction of a new fire station; the temporary easement will allow ingress, egress and material laydown during construction.

Doctor Gardner presented maps that showed the donated parcel (outlined in red) and the proposed temporary easement along the parcel’s northern boundary (outlined in yellow). Staff said some tree removal in the easement area will be necessary, but a vegetative buffer will remain between the existing school fence and the construction site. The presentation noted required erosion control measures and silt fencing around the easement area and said the easement area will be returned to Onslow County Schools in its natural state upon completion of construction.

A motion to grant the temporary construction easement was made and seconded during the meeting and adopted by voice vote. The presiding officer called for the ayes and the motion carried; no roll-call tally was recorded in the public record during the meeting.

Board members did not request further conditions at the time of the vote.
