Natural Resources Board: minutes approved, resignation and appointment noted; Laura Thompson introduced

The City of Sebastian Natural Resources Board on March 4 conducted roll call, approved minutes from its Feb. 4 meeting, noted a member resignation and the city council appointment of a new regular member, and adjourned after routine business.

Roll call recorded members present as Miss Ware, Matt Krauss, Mr. Staleman and Mr. Durano; staff noted that alternate positions remain open and that Dan Brogan may attend by Zoom on some meetings. The board moved to approve the minutes from Feb. 4 (members referenced an earlier date typo carried into the draft). No individual names were recorded in the motion and second on the transcript; the board voiced an aye vote and the minutes were approved.

Staff announced that Sharita Billman resigned from the Natural Resources Board effective Feb. 11, 2025, and that Laura Thompson was appointed by city council on Feb. 12, 2025 to fill that vacancy as a regular member. At the meeting, Laura Thompson introduced herself: "My name is Laura Thompson. I'm a local Sebastian resident. I'm very excited to be on the board, so thank you for the warm welcome. And I'm excited to work on the sustainable Sebastian plan and get involved." Thompson stated her day job is as an environmental scientist with background in oceanography and marine science and experience on environmental projects in Brevard County; she said she understands she may take on goals previously championed by the departing member.

At the end of the agenda the board approved a motion to adjourn. No board votes on ordinances, contracts or budget items were recorded in the meeting transcript.
