City staff: Native-planting pilot at Garden Club Park to be installed next week

Staff said Tim and Anna Harrison and their team at Native Butterfly Flowers will install native plants. The board was told no immediate action by board members is required; staff invited board members to view the planting once work is installed. Staff also explained that many of the plants will be small at installation and will have an establishment period: trees may take several years to fully establish while shrubs and ground covers typically establish more quickly.
Staff described the project as a pilot that the city will monitor as plantings mature and said the project reflects continuing implementation of the Sustainable Sebastian action plan.
