Sebastian Natural Resources Board readies Earth Day/Arbor Day celebration, seeks vendors and volunteers

The City of Sebastian Natural Resources Board detailed plans for its Earth Day and Arbor Day celebration, scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025, including multi-site collection events, volunteer planting opportunities and on-site entertainment.
City staff said the waste-management shredding and electronics recycling will be held at the Riverview Park overflow parking lot, with entrance from Indian River Drive. A separate spring-cleaning household-goods collection will be held at Barber Street Sports Complex from 9 a.m. to noon; staff said both collection events follow the standard schedule even though the celebration itself begins at 10 a.m. Staff also reported a partnership with Bike Walk of Indian River County to collect bicycles for recycling or rehabilitation.
At the time of the March meeting, staff reported three registered food vendors (Kona Ice, LaDotta’s Boiled Peanuts and 40 South), 26 merchandise vendors and eight nonprofit or organization booths; staff said vendor approvals were being finalized and invited the board to recruit additional food vendors. Entertainment arrangements included Ricky Ray for a 2 p.m.–4 p.m. performance; staff said performer contracts were being prepared.
The celebration will include a major volunteer planting coordinated with ORCA (organization name in meeting materials). Staff said the buffered-shoreline planting will take place near the Riverview Park kayak launch and extend north to a pedestrian bridge; ORCA will ask volunteers to register and the city will provide a volunteer map and shift schedule. Staff also said face painting is scheduled (noon–3 p.m.) and that the board is considering distributing seed packets with the board’s name and website or a QR code to drive follow-up engagement.
Board members raised logistical questions including finalizing vendor approvals, scheduling staff and board time blocks for event duties, seed-packet workdays, and volunteer recruitment. Staff asked board members to pass vendor leads to help increase the number of food vendors. The board plans to finalize volunteer shift assignments and seed-packet preparations at upcoming meetings.
