Commission hears update on Green Bag Road roundabout; right-of-way acquisition still pending
Summary
Members heard a brief update on planned construction at Green Bag Road, including a roundabout at the Emtek Drive intersection. Right-of-way acquisition from private owners has not been completed and the Department of Highways had not yet approached the city about required lands, a staff member said.

A commission member asked for an update on Green Bag Road construction. A staff speaker said public online discussion about the project has been vigorous but that the Department of Highways’ right-of-way acquisition process was not complete.
The staff member said the project remains slated for construction, and he had heard a start date in the spring, but noted that DOH had not approached the city about lands the state would need to build the roundabout where Emtek Drive intersects the Green Bag (sometimes referred to in discussion as Greenback) Road alignment. He said right-of-way acquisition is typically one of the last steps in DOH projects.
Commissioners discussed visible heavy equipment near the former red store and noted a local contracting firm, True Largo, has equipment at the site but did not win the construction bid. Staff said that contractor may need to move equipment if another firm is selected for the project.
No formal action was taken; commissioners requested staff to continue monitoring DOH outreach and to report back if right-of-way negotiations begin or if a confirmed construction schedule is provided.
