Auburn council asks staff to compile peer pay data and schedule compensation workshop for incoming council

Councilman Parsons on March 4 asked the Auburn City Council to examine the councilmember compensation structure ahead of the council that will take office in 2026. Parsons said it has been more than 25 years since compensation was adjusted and asked staff to prepare comparative information showing how Auburn’s pay compares with similar Alabama cities.
City Manager Ms. Crouch said staff could compile the requested information and recommended scheduling a work session in late March after spring break. The council agreed to aim for a late-March work session and to return the matter to the Committee of the Whole at the council’s first April meeting for further consideration.
Council members emphasized the review would apply to the council elected in 2026 and not retroactively alter the current council’s pay. Staff will gather comparative compensation data and any other items the council requests for the planned work session.
