The Mobile City Council approved a resolution to rename a fire station in memory of former Mobile Fire Rescue Chief Alexander G. Trenier.
Council members described Trenier’s long career with Mobile Fire Rescue and his family’s multigenerational service to the department. A council member who sponsored the resolution recounted Trenier’s promotions through the ranks and said he ‘‘was a perfect example of a chief officer, mentor, teacher, and what a public safety servant should be.’’ The sponsor noted Trenier’s promotions (driver in 1991; captain in 1994; one of the city’s first Black district chiefs in 2001; deputy chief in 2018) and his community work with neighborhood centers and youth programs.
Family members and colleagues attended the meeting. A representative of the Trenier family thanked the council and said the family was "eternally grateful" for the council’s action, adding that much of Trenier’s work "in the background" on mentorship and outreach was not widely known.
The council moved to waive rules for immediate consideration of Resolution 64 30 and then approved the resolution by voice vote. No roll‑call tally was recorded in the meeting transcript.
