Organizers of the Galt Children’s Maker’s Market used the council’s public-comment time to update the city and request volunteers, mentors and judges for the event scheduled for May 3.
Mikaela Johnson and Becky Ronsby, organizers of the market, told the council the 2024 inaugural event hosted about 90 children and 56 booths and drew hundreds of shoppers. They said the 2025 market will include a pre-event workshop for participants on basic business skills — pricing, change-making, marketing and product development — and will be held in coordination with the Saturday Market in downtown Galt.
Johnson said sponsorship has expanded and that organizers expect more than 90 booths this year. She asked council members and the public to recruit youth participants, serve as judges (the organizers plan to expand from three judges to about 14) and mentor student entrepreneurs. Organizers said school outreach is under way and financial assistance is available for students who need seed funds to create products.
Mayor Sean Farmer and council members praised the program’s educational benefits and encouraged residents to volunteer or attend. No council action was requested during the public-comment period; staff and organizers said they will coordinate further on logistics and volunteer recruitment.
