Jefferson Union board recognizes Terra Nova student Napoleón Kalinglin and athlete Jazmín Thomas

The Jefferson Union High School District Board on an evening meeting recognized two students — Napoleón Kalinglin of Terra Nova High School as Student of the Month and Jazmín (Jazmín) Thomas for athletic achievements — and heard brief remarks from school staff, coaches and the students.

Napoleón Kalinglin, presented by Meghan (Terranova staff), was described as academically strong with a reported grade-point average of 4.12 and enrollment in multiple Advanced Placement courses. Meghan said Kalinglin intends to pursue chemical engineering and listed acceptances to San José State University, UC Merced and San Francisco State University, with other decisions pending. Meghan also highlighted Kalinglin’s role in the Terra Nova marching band as drum major and his volunteer work teaching percussion to younger students in a “Bridge Team” initiative. "We are so blessed to have a drum major as fun and dedicated as him," Meghan said.

Kalinglin briefly thanked family, friends and the community for support. "It is an honor to receive this recognition," he said.

The board also recognized Jazmín Thomas for her cross‑country season and qualification for state competition. Coach (T‑Maggio) and multiple board members praised Thomas’s discipline and recovery from a prior injury that limited last season. Thomas said she has been running since age six and thanked family and coaches for their support. "Receiving this recognition from the district is very special," she said.

Board members and staff took photos with the students and their families after the presentations. The meeting then continued with other agenda items and district reports.
