During the public-recognition segment on Feb. 18, two outside speakers briefed the council on upcoming events and invited city participation.
Matt Harris, chairman of the Music City Executive Airport, invited council members and department heads to a dedication of the airport’s newly completed midfield apron expansion on March 29. “We recently completed our new midfield apron expansion, and we are gonna be dedicating that new ramp on the 29th,” Harris said, and he thanked the city departments that assisted the airport’s work.
Amy Nixon, executive director of Historic Downtown Gallatin, said she began in July and outlined events planned for the coming months: SquareFest on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; a third-Thursday series on Main Street running June through September; and a fundraising gala on July 11 at Emerald Union. Nixon said the organization adjusted evening start times to reduce disruption to downtown businesses.
Both speakers offered invitations and asked city departments to participate or share information with constituents; no formal council action was taken on the announcements.
