Monongalia County Commission roundup: hires, grants, appointments and requisitions approved

At its March 5, 2025, meeting, the Monongalia County Commission approved several routine and local items including a new 911 hire, a Community Development Block Grant application, two requisitions for the University Town Center administrative funds, an appointment to the Building Commission and a $2,000 mural grant for New Hill Community Park.
The commission approved the consent agenda, which included minutes from the Feb. 26 meeting and vouchers for the general county fund and other accounts. County Administrator Renata McClure presented the consent items and asked for approval; commissioners approved the consent agenda by voice vote.
Jimmy Smith introduced Tabitha Ellenwood as a new full-time Monongalia County 911 employee. Ellenwood is scheduled to start March 16 with a beginning salary the county stated as $3,425.10 per month; commissioners approved the hire by voice vote.
Colleen Kuhn, the county’s grant administrator and office manager for grants, presented a Community Development Block Grant application requesting $21,966; the commission moved to approve and the motion carried.
The commission approved two requisitions for University Town Center administrative expense funds: Requisition No. 101 (excise tax district administrative expense fund) for $2,002.66 and Requisition No. 19 (series 2023A property tax district administrative expense fund) for $2,002.11; both were described as monthly invoices from Municap for February.
Reynard Glimp was appointed to the Monongalia County Building Commission after the board noted the position had been publicly open for about a month and no other applicants were received; the appointment was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The commission approved a $2,000 request to complete a mural on a storage building at New Hill Community Park, with the project expected to finish by August. A commissioner noted community volunteers had cleaned graffiti from the building before the mural proposal.
Other items on the agenda included correspondence received about local facilities and events and brief reports from commissioners about recent meetings with state officials and a planned roadside cleanup project.
