12-year-old asks council to add lights to Redmond Middle School tennis courts

Ernest LaRocque, a 12-year-old middle school student, asked the Redmond City Council on March 4 to install lights on the tennis courts at Redmond Middle School so the courts can be used after sunset.
LaRocque said the courts are nearly unusable in the evening and that nearby Reservoir Park courts are unavailable for months because of construction, making access to courts more limited. He noted that other public courts at Perrigo Park and Grasslawn Park have lights with timers and questioned why the middle-school courts do not. He also said the middle-school parking lot has lights on all night while the courts remain dark.
LaRocque emphasized that the courts are open to the public and that the city has used them for summer camps; he said lights would increase access for students and families who work during the day. The council did not take action during the meeting; the item was offered as public comment for council consideration.
