Based on current numbers, the district is “down four sections,” Andrea said, with a likely scenario of being down three sections after further verification; some schools showed room while Hudson Prairie third grade was reported at 27 students.
Board members compared the current kindergarten cohort to the graduating Class of 2025, which the board discussed as roughly 467 students, and noted that the district has not experienced recent population inflows large enough to offset the decline. Staff projected a capture rate of about 85 percent and said open-enrollment and private-school shifts have affected totals.
Board members raised consolidation as a potential response, with one trustee noting that moving from six elementary buildings to four would change section counts and capacity management. Administrators cautioned that consolidation conversations are sensitive and would be considered only if lower enrollment trends persist.
