Public works staff reported that the Washington State Department of Transportation agreed to install a speed radar sign on the state highway near the school to encourage drivers to slow. The sign is expected to cost about $10,000. A fire district representative has pledged $4,000 and the school $3,000 toward the cost and asked whether the county could provide the remaining difference.
A county speaker said staff have identified options and that the project would not be funded through the county roads program because the sign is on a state highway. "They wanted to know if the county could help make the difference," the speaker said, describing the request and noting that Sean has other funding options to explore.
Staff said they will provide the fire district contact information and follow up on funding options and next steps.
