Fairway Estates residents ask Everett planning commission for 55+ manufactured-home zoning overlay

During the public-comment portion of the Everett Planning Commission meeting March 4, a Fairway Estates representative asked the commission to consider creating a 55-and-older manufactured-home zoning overlay for the park to preserve it as low-income housing.
Ken Pearson, who identified himself as a member of the board of directors for the Fairway Estates Homeowners Alliance, told the commission the development at 1427 Montego Street East is half a mile east of the airport and faces redevelopment pressure. "We are here tonight to ask you to consider doing a 55 plus manufactured home zoning overlay for Fairway Estates," Pearson said, adding residents fear displacement if the site redevelops to townhouses, apartments or condominiums.
Pearson said the overlay would help preserve Desert Way, Ontario Fairway Estates and Mulholland Park as age-restricted manufactured-home communities and prevent conversions that could price out current homeowners. Commissioners thanked Pearson for raising the issue and for participating in the comprehensive-plan outreach.
