Solanco SD celebrates quiz bowl championship and names March students of the month

At its March 3 meeting the Solanco School District Board recognized the high school quiz bowl team’s successful inaugural formal season and presented March students of the month from several district schools.
Quiz bowl: The high-school team finished the regular season 15–3 in the Lancaster-Lebanon quiz-bowl league and advanced through the playoffs to win the Division 2 championship against Lancaster Catholic. Board presenters said the team’s performance will move the program into Division 1 next year. Students recognized as members of this year’s roster included Lucy Costigan, Adan Rice, Lexi Groff, Rhiannon Groff and Reed Harvey; two team members were not present at the meeting, Mia Daniel Morales and Ty Kaufman. The board noted that Kaufman finished as the second-highest scorer in the league, near 100 points per game, and that the team will appear in a late-March episode of the WGL Brain Busters program on YouTube.
Students of the month: The board presented student-of-the-month recognitions from several schools. Claremont Elementary named Landon Eisenberger; his nominating teacher, Heather Terry, cited Landon’s strong interest in music, new saxophone lessons begun in October and steady progress in band rehearsals and concerts. Madison Schoffer (nominated by her classroom teacher) was honored for consistent kindness, responsibility and growth in reading. Berkeley Elementary recognized Carly Townsend for reading progress and classroom leadership, and a first-grade student, Jack Patterson, was honored for respect, responsibility and steady improvement in reading, according to nominating teachers. Recipients received a portfolio, a copy of the nomination letter and a gift card, and the board invited families forward for recognition and photographs.
Why it matters: The quiz-bowl recognition highlights a revived competitive academic team moving into a higher division, which district speakers said reflects both classroom instruction and student practice. The student-of-the-month program spotlights individual student achievement and supports community recognition of classroom progress and character.
