Staff noted both steps would require ordinance text amendments and updated rules of procedure, and that additional work would be needed to align appointment cycles if the board elects to move all advisory‑board appointments to a single annual window in March.
Commissioners discussed aligning advisory‑board appointment timing, increasing public outreach for openings, and considering a separate special‑projects committee or reconstituted advisory structure to handle targeted research assignments. Several commissioners asked staff to model options and to return with proposed text amendments, a timeline for implementation and any bylaw changes required.
Separately, the board voted unanimously to adopt its 2025 legislative priorities — a package assembled by the board’s government‑affairs working group and staff. The priorities include support for state transportation investments, clarity on local authority for municipal ordinances, and other items the board will carry to the county and state delegation during the legislative session.
Staff said they will prepare draft ordinance language, rule‑of‑procedure changes, and an analysis of appointment impacts for the board’s review on a future agenda.
