Selectmen approve Bow Rotary Club’s granite marker plan for Rotary Park

Jerry Carrier, acting president of the Bow Rotary Club, told the Board of Selectmen that the Rotary Club’s committee wants a low-profile carved-stone marker for Rotary Park, similar to markers the club observed in nearby towns. Carrier said the design is intended to blend with the park and honor the garden-club volunteers who maintain the space.
Carrier said the committee prefers locally sourced granite if available and described options including reusing stone from demolished foundations or existing town piles. Board members and staff discussed placement to avoid the park’s irrigation/water line and agreed the marker should sit well back from the road on a concrete pad set below the frost line, with Rotarians providing labor for the pad and the town assisting (for example, by providing an auger to minimize disturbance).
A Selectman moved to authorize the Bow Rotary Club to excavate a small area and install a stone marker at Rotary Park outside of Rotary setback requirements, the motion was seconded, and the board voted unanimously in favor. The board noted the Rotary Club’s target to complete the project by July and encouraged the club to work with DPW staff on placement and any utility checks before excavation.
