The Clay County Board of Commissioners on March 4 proclaimed March 2025 as Social Work Month and approved hiring a replacement social worker in the adult and behavioral health division, county staff said.
A county official described the work social workers perform for vulnerable residents and presented department statistics used in the proclamation, including hundreds of child-protection and adult-protection assessments, intakes, and licensed home inspections over the prior year. "Proclaiming March as social work month is an opportunity to honor and celebrate these incredible professionals," the staff presenter said.
Separately, staff requested approval to hire a social worker to replace an employee who accepted a state position with the Department of Children, Youth and Families. The position handles civil commitments, intensive case management, treatment coordination and specialty-court participation; staff said those duties are critical to continuity of services.
The department reported the position is budgeted at grade 18 step 10; a new hire would likely start at grade 18 step 1 producing an estimated first-year salary savings, and the position also generates modest billable revenue estimated at about $9,700 annually. Commissioners approved the proclamation and the hire by voice vote.
