The Board of Public Works met Tuesday and reviewed several construction bids, awarding two contracts and asking staff to bring one bid back for further review.
The board opened bids for the 20 Fifth Street construction project (which includes work at Fulton Street, First Street, River Drive and Second Street). Staff reported three bids: Swedlick at $3,113,313; Haas at approximately $3,234,006.23 (as read in the meeting); and A1 at $3,238,827. A staff speaker urged the board to review those bids and bring the item back to the board next week for a decision. The board did not award that contract at the March 4 meeting.
On a separate agenda item the board opened bids for the 2025 pavement marking project and received two bids: Brickline at $127,484.66 and Century at $138,072.90. A board member motioned to award the contract to Brickline as the low bid; the motion was seconded and the board approved the award.
The board also considered the 2025 street construction project for Day, Randolph and Cherry streets. After reviewing the bids and confirming the project came within the approved budget, a board member recommended awarding the contract to Haas Sons Inc. in the amount of $5,735,489.74; a motion to approve the award was seconded and approved.
Votes on the motions were taken by voice; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript. The board asked staff to return with the 20 Fifth Street bids for further review the following week.
The meeting adjourned shortly after the votes.
