Onalaska approves $38,000 design amendment and $43,556 change order for community center

The Onalaska Board of Public Works and Utilities Committee on March 4 approved amendment No. 3 to the design services contract with ISG Incorporated for up to $38,000 and also approved Change Order No. 3 for the community center construction project, a net increase of $43,556.55.
The measures were presented by staff member Jared Holter and approved by the committee in separate unanimous votes. Mayor Kim Smith called the motions and the committee confirmed the approvals with no recorded dissents.
The board said the ISG amendment is a time-and-materials amendment not to exceed $38,000. Holter told the committee the original design scope for the community center was approximately $560,000 and that the current ISG contract had about $6,400 remaining, but staff expected to exceed that remaining balance. Holter said the project contingency was approximately $383,000; accounting for previously approved change orders and the items approved at this meeting, staff said they expected to retain “just over $200,000” in contingency after these approvals.
Change Order No. 3 itemizes several construction adjustments and equipment additions that produced the $43,556.55 net increase: plumbing valves ($3,890.56); an additional roof drain ($3,678.04); upsizing the kitchen hood and ceiling/layout revisions ($7,316.56); gym striping adjustments ($6,445.11); audiovisual and IT equipment standards and related work ($21,834.34); and kitchen window sills ($391.94). Holter said the AV/IT line is explained in more detail in the meeting packet.
Committee members said the amendments and change order fall within the capital-improvement contingency and did not require further action beyond approval. No public comment was offered on the items during the meeting.
The committee’s approvals keep the community center project moving toward final construction closeout; staff indicated the remaining contingency will be used for final walk-through and punch-list items as needed.
