Summary
The board authorized contract review for courthouse annex envelope upgrades, approved a change order to replace a water softener at the Community Services Building, and approved repairs and painting for an annex courtroom.
Centre County commissioners approved several facilities items including entering contract review for building envelope upgrades at the courthouse annex, a change order to replace a failed water softener at the Community Services Building, and a not-to-exceed contract to repair gypsum board and repaint a courtroom damaged by water infiltration.
John (Facilities) presented two bidders for the annex building envelope project and said both submitted complete proposals; commissioners voted to enter contract review to move the procurement forward. “This is just a preventative thing to try to stop water infiltration and catch any issues before they become large,” a county official said about the envelope work.
The board approved a change order with Ainsworth Incorporated to replace a water softening system at the Community Services Building for $34,757.78 and accepted a credit of $12,386.78 that resulted from a code review deleting required crawl-space sprinklers. Separately, the board approved a contract not to exceed $20,470 with Penn Installations Inc. to repair gypsum board cracks and repaint the courthouse annex courtroom after water infiltration damaged portions of the ceiling.
Each item was approved by motion and voice vote. County staff said the envelope project and the courtroom repairs together aim to address water infiltration at the annex and preserve building systems and finish materials.
