Brockton schools showcase student work in pop‑up exhibits, Fuller Craft visits and citywide art shows

Art department staff told the subcommittee that teachers created recurring pop‑up exhibitions at Brockton High School to rebuild student community after COVID and to spotlight student work.
The superintendent said the district celebrated Black History Month with student artwork displayed on bulletin boards at elementary and middle schools and shared on the art department Facebook page. The district’s third‑ and fifth‑grade students toured three major exhibits at the Fuller Craft Museum, including shows on wearable art, art and athletics, and quilting; staff described pre‑ and post‑visit classroom activities and student engagement.
At the high school, art staff said 21 students received recognition in the Scholastic Art Awards, with seven earning silver keys and others receiving honorable mentions. The second‑semester art courses produced the annual pop‑up exhibition titled I Wish, a teacher‑led project that invites the whole school to participate. Staff told the committee that the exhibit is primarily for students and is not generally open to the public, though they said a public opening night could be arranged for community viewing in the future.
Upcoming public art events include the Art Smart Showcase at the Brockton Public Library later in March, PhotoVoice and HarborOne shows in April and May, and a K–8 art show at the library from May 20–29. Committee members suggested exploring murals and other beautification projects at middle schools to make common spaces more welcoming. No formal votes were taken on art programming.
