The Miami Beach Planning Board unanimously recommended that the City Commission approve a city-sponsored ordinance to waive the base Historic Preservation Board (HPB) application fee for single-family homes in historic districts or individually designated historic properties.
Staff told the board the proposal would waive the base application fee (about $3,600) for eligible single-family applications; applicants would still be responsible for public-notice costs (mailing, site posting and advertising). Planning staff said there were only five such HPB single-family applications in the prior five years, so the fiscal impact to the city is minimal.
Board members supported the change as a way to reduce hurdles for homeowners doing work on historic homes. The board voted to transmit a favorable recommendation to the City Commission.
What's next: The item will proceed to the City Commission for ordinance consideration with the planning board's favorable recommendation.
