Council approves street equipment purchase, fuel contract, board appointments and routine bills

The Vermillion City Council on March 3 approved several routine items: the purchase of a new trailer-mounted crack-sealing machine, acceptance of low fuel bids, consolidated Board of Equalization appointments and payment of city invoices.
Administration recommended purchasing a Crafco Super Shot 250D trailer-mounted crack-sealing machine from the distributor in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, at a quoted cost of $80,147.40. The 2025 equipment replacement fund included $88,000 for the replacement; staff said buying directly from the distributor would save the city roughly $7,800 compared with the equipment-replacement estimate. The council approved the resolution to purchase the machine.
City staff reported three fuel quotes; New Century FS submitted the low bids for the listed items (examples: item 1 at $2.729, item 2 at $2.819, item 3 at $2.692, item 4 at $2.90). Council accepted the low bid.
The council approved city representation on the consolidated Board of Equalization for April 15. Staff said the consolidated board hears local appeals and that three city council members are needed to serve beginning at 1 p.m.; several council members volunteered to serve as members or alternates.
Finally, the council approved paying invoices listed in the packet. A councilor asked about temporary fencing charges at the Jolly demolition site; staff said the fencing is rented and will be returned to the vendor.
