Solar developer says Sandy Springs library and Benson Center will get rooftop panels under no-upfront-cost model

Andrew Quigley of Cherry Street Energy told the council during public comment that his firm installs, owns and maintains rooftop solar arrays at no upfront capital cost to the host building. The host pays monthly only for the electricity the array generates.
Quigley said Cherry Street Energy is already working locally and noted two projects "very close by": rooftop panels at the Sandy Springs Library and an array currently under construction at the Benson Center. He described the company's model as similar to arrangements the city already uses with Georgia Power, with the owner paying for the power produced rather than the installation.
Why it matters: The model can allow municipal and nonprofit facilities to obtain solar power with little or no capital outlay while transferring maintenance and construction responsibilities to the developer.
Council action: This was a public-comment introduction; no council action or contract award occurred during the meeting. Council members thanked Quigley for the presentation and indicated they appreciated the outreach.
