The Lake County Board of Supervisors declared March 2025 as Social Worker Appreciation Month on March 4, adopting a proclamation recognizing the contributions of social workers across the county.
Vice Chair Rasmussen read the proclamation on behalf of the board; the document cited the profession's role in protecting children and the elderly, advancing public-health and social-safety net programs and supporting mental-health and substance-use services. The proclamation observes that social workers have helped secure social-security and labor protections historically and notes calls in the profession for an interstate licensing compact to improve mental-health service delivery.
Rachel Dillman Parson, Lake County Social Services Director, thanked social-workers in adult protective services, IHSS, child protective services and employment services, and said staff continue to face rising caseloads. Amy Shymanski, deputy director of adult services, described the increasing demands and the need for self-care among providers who frequently carry heavy emotional burdens beyond office hours. Megan Morgan of Lake County Behavioral Health read prepared remarks from Behavioral Health Director Elise Jones, praising social workers' service and calling their work a lifeline for vulnerable residents.
The proclamation was signed by Board Chair E.J. Crandall and marked as passed and adopted during the March 2025 meeting. Several social workers from county social services joined supervisors at the dais for a photo.
