Airport authority leadership (Dr. Randy Peters and others) said the contract’s scope is mostly project formulation, coordination and accounting; the GDOT portion covers approximately $333,000 while the local 25% match totals about $111,000. Peters told the board the airport authority expects to manage much of the local match from airport authority funds and that any county obligation should be modest. County attorney and staff discussed whether the county should pre-approve half of a potential local obligation if the authority can’t cover the entire match.
Staff and commissioners noted the airport project is being implemented as many separate GDOT contracts; commissioners were warned future phases will bring larger dollar values back to the board. The intergovernmental agreement among city, county and the airport authority will reflect how local matching funds are split; the airport authority and city must each approve their parts of the contract as well.
Ending: County staff said they will coordinate with the airport authority and the City of Griffin to finalize the intergovernmental agreement and return with a recommended local-share resolution if needed.
