The Anacortes public works committee told the City Council on March 3 that an extended haul-out for the Guaymas ferry will begin March 15 and is expected to affect regular service through about May 1 as engine work takes place.
Councilmember Moulton reported the county will conduct limited outreach for the haul-out this year and the city will assist with signage and other local information efforts. Councilmember Walters added specific traffic and parking changes: there will be no diagonal parking along Sixth Street this year and a section that has previously been one-way (from Sixth up the hill to Seventh) will not be converted to a one-way this haul-out; current code prohibits parking along a particular curve and will be enforced.
Public works also flagged a house move in Skyline slated to begin at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, with a large structure moved from the beach up Kingsway, Heather and Puget Way; crews expect brief, multi-hour traffic interruptions to complete the move.
In lighter business, the committee said a falconer will bring a trained bird to City Hall as a non-lethal bird‑control demonstration to deter seagulls; staff reported the demonstration caused birds to disperse during a prior visit.
