Anacortes reports fiber network growth; circuit upgraded to 15 Gbps

He told the council the network recorded a peak streaming load of about 11 gigabits during a recent international hockey championship and that the city upgraded the circuit to 15 gigabits in the days following that spike.
Committee members described a recent slowdown in installations caused largely by a severe freeze that delayed some field work. McDougall said work in the EDA parcel is about 70% complete and that the next six to eight weeks should bring an increase in customer installations in that area. He also said the city acquired a final block of IPv4 addresses—"another thousand of those," he said—to support the remainder of the project buildout.
The committee noted the fiber network’s growth is changing local cable consumption patterns and that the network’s increased capacity should accommodate future streaming demand and sporting events.
