The McHenry CCSD 15 Board of Education voted Feb. 25 to offer a $25 early-registration discount to families who register students for the 2025–26 school year by May 30.
Mr. Schubert presented the recommendation and told the board the discount is intended to encourage earlier registration so the district can better project staffing and identify students who need special or bilingual services. “The discount would run for all families who register their students before the May 30 deadline,” he said.
Mr. Schubert disclosed a preliminary revenue estimate included in the board packet: using an assumed 40,000 students and an estimated 40% qualifying for free or reduced-price benefits, the district anticipates about a $30,000 reduction in registration revenue if the discount is widely used. He described the figure as a basic estimate of potential revenue loss.
A motion to approve the $25 early-registration discount carried on a roll-call vote. The board did not alter the deadline or the discount amount during the discussion.
