Council recognizes UMC renovation and calls Las Vegas Medical District a regional health hub

City Council members and representatives from University Medical Center (UMC) used a ceremonial portion of the March 5 meeting to highlight recent renovations at UMC and to describe the Las Vegas Medical District as a regional health‑care hub.

Mayor Pro Tem described the role UMC has played in city health priorities and recounted personal family experiences using UMC telehealth and inpatient care. John O’Reilly, speaking for UMC, said the hospital has invested in a major renovation and that the work—he described as the beginning of a multi‑phase effort—has positioned UMC to be the “hub” in a hub‑and‑spokes model for health care in the community. O’Reilly and others named collaborators including county, VA and Air Force partners and credited the UMC board and construction teams for the project.

Council and UMC speakers gave figures for the capital work in remarks. One speaker referenced $60,000,000 invested; another described the project as a $65,000,000 effort. The meeting record contains both figures; city speakers did not reconcile that difference during the remarks.

UMC representatives emphasized telehealth access and recent facility improvements that officials said were intended to improve patient experience and regional medical capacity. Council remarks framed the Medical District as integral to economic and health-care development in Las Vegas, with continued collaboration among local and federal partners.

The recognition was ceremonial and no council action was required. Council members and UMC officials invited public recognition of UMC staff and project partners.
