The Lafayette City Council on March 4 unanimously approved a proclamation designating March 2025 as the 23rd annual "March for Meals" month, recognizing Coal Creek Meals on Wheels for its neighborhood nutrition and social-connection programs.
The proclamation, read into the record by a council member, notes that Coal Creek Meals on Wheels serves Lafayette, Louisville, Erie and Superior and that in 2024 the organization delivered more than 70,000 meals. Luna Collins, the nonprofit’s community engagement manager, told the council that roughly 57% of those meals were provided to Lafayette residents and described the program’s home-delivery, grab-and-go and community‑meals services.
"In 2024, we served over 70,000 meals to our neighbors. About 57% of those meals were to Lafayette residents," Collins said during the meeting.
Councilors and staff praised the organization’s work, highlighted its role in reducing food insecurity and social isolation among older adults and other residents, and encouraged community support through volunteering and donations. The proclamation passed without opposition.
