At the start of the meeting, the council held a formal swearing‑in ceremony for Steven Salloran, who was chosen as the city’s next fire chief by the Fire & Police Commissioners and assumed responsibility on the first of the month. Salloran took the oath of office to support the U.S. Constitution and the Illinois Constitution and to faithfully discharge the duties of fire chief.
Chief Salloran thanked the community and city employees for their support and introduced family members who attended the ceremony.
The mayor also administered an oath of office to Zelton Krause, who was promoted to lieutenant effective Feb. 27 after joining the Quincy Fire Department as a firefighter on Aug. 11, 2011. The mayor and speakers recited Krause’s oath as an officer of the Quincy Fire Department, and Krause introduced family members present at the meeting.
Why it matters: The appointments formalize leadership at the Quincy Fire Department. City and department leaders described the moves as part of regular staffing and leadership succession.
Quotes below are taken from the council transcript of the swearing‑in ceremony.
