Volunteer group offers lake monitoring program, invites five lakes to apply for free data and tech support

Mary Conley Eggert, founder of Global Water Works and Lake County Lake Lovers, said the volunteer effort has raised $15,000 in donated decision-quality data from a corporation and has 150 active volunteers. The program is offering support and instrumentation to five lakes that apply by Feb. 21 to receive twice-monthly reviews of water quality and access to a tech team composed of scientists and local teachers.
Eggert said the group will hold public briefings (described in the transcript as events on Feb. 20 and March 20) where vendors and lake leaders will share success stories and restoration techniques, including approaches to reduce muck, pollution and geese-related problems. She invited Board members and the public to follow the group's schedule, join meetings and spread word to lake associations.
The presentation was delivered during the public-comment period; the Board did not record an action or a referral related to the volunteer program at the meeting.
