The Lakeland Board of Education voted March 3 to adopt the EverFi Vaping: Know the Truth curriculum for sixth- through ninth-grade wellness and guidance programs.
Superintendent Dr. Horrell told the board the recommendation came from the coordinated school health and student services departments and falls under the board’s authority to approve curriculum. He described the online module as professionally produced and appropriate for the intended grades.
Board members asked questions and several members praised the curriculum’s presentation and engagement features during discussion, noting the program includes interviews and scientific information intended to inform students about vaping risks. The board approved the item by voice vote without amendment.
Outcome and implementation: administration will incorporate the EverFi curriculum into sixth- through ninth-grade wellness and guidance instruction for the current or upcoming school term, per the timeline and rollout determined by student services and coordinated school health.
The approval was taken from the meeting’s discussion/action items list and passed on a voice vote.
