Mission council approves monthlong municipal-court amnesty for March 2025

The Mission City Council on a unanimous 5-0 vote approved a resolution establishing a municipal-court amnesty program that runs through the close of business on March 31, 2025.
The resolution directs the city’s municipal court to allow violators without standing arrest warrants to voluntarily appear to resolve charges “without fear of arrest.” Warrant fees will be waived upon payment in full of the underlying violation; the city’s municipal warrants will be recalled when those conditions are met. The resolution identifies the court’s payment office at 1200 East Eighth Street and lists in-person payment hours as Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:45 p.m.
Municipal Court Judge Meister, who presented the item, urged residents who cannot pay in full to still come to the court so staff can explore alternatives. “I would also like to encourage those individuals who cannot be in full … we can explore alternate forms of payment regarding whether it's payment plans or community service,” Judge Meister said after the council approved the resolution.
The council’s roll call at quorum confirmed Mayor Nori Garza, Mayor Pro Tem Rubin Plata, Councilwoman Jessica Oterra, Marissa Gerlach and Councilman Alberto Vela were present; the vote was recorded as 5 yes, 0 no.
The resolution takes effect immediately upon approval and directs the city to resume standard warrant enforcement and fines after March 31, 2025.
