Board to seek AI training; members highlight student mental‑health art event and awards nominations

Members of the School Board of Broward County asked staff to work with the district’s Innovative Learning Department to provide training on artificial intelligence and recapped a recent student mental‑health event during the same workshop.

"As AI continues to be integrated into every aspect of our lives, especially in education, I wanted to inquire about the possibility of providing the board with training or a webinar on this topic," a board member said, noting several upcoming events hosted by the Innovative Learning Department. Dr. Holness responded that staff would coordinate a workshop and that board secretaries could also participate.

Board members also praised a community event, Everyone Counts: Healing Through the Arts, hosted at Plantation Middle School. One member said the event offered parent workshops, student resilience activities and resources to reduce student stress. The board member encouraged replicating the program in other areas to highlight students and connect families with mental‑health resources.

Members announced nominations are open for the district’s 2025 community involvement awards; the member said nominations are accepted through March 21 and that the awards ceremony is scheduled for May 22, 2025, at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center. The member also noted two Broward students were finalists for a Channel 10 Eco Hero award, with public voting open daily until March 14.

The board did not take formal action on training or the event recap during the workshop; staff said they would follow up to schedule training and to publicize award nomination details.
