Commission asks engineering to review right-of-way and add no-parking signs on John Street

The Woburn City Traffic Commission on Feb. 20 voted to direct engineering to review the width of the John Street right-of-way between 2 John Street and 127 Main Street and, if appropriate, to post two 'No Parking' signs to preserve sight-lines at the intersection with Main Street.
Commissioners and staff reviewed site photos and a field observation. Staff noted an existing 'No trucking' sign near the property and that worn grass suggested vehicles occasionally park partially off pavement; the petitioner was not present and asked the item be continued to the next meeting if necessary.
Commissioner Demembert moved that engineering verify right-of-way widths and, if applicable, add two no-parking signs (one on each side) from the referenced location to the corner, marking the standard 20-foot intersection clearance. The motion passed by voice vote. Staff said enforcement remains the responsibility of the police department, and that if parking is on private property beyond the paved roadway the city cannot prohibit it.
Engineering will assess sign placement feasibility and report back to the commission.
