Traffic commission asks DPW to add compliant crosswalk sign, trim brush near Forest Park Road overpass

The Woburn City Traffic Commission on Feb. 20 requested the Department of Public Works to install a standard crosswalk sign and trim brush near the Route 95 overpass on Forest Park Road and Boyd Road.
Commissioners said the work will be coordinated with seasonal maintenance. Jay Duran, superintendent of public works, told the commission by email that blind driveway signs exist in each direction and that crews will "check further to see if we can add a compliant crosswalk once the snow plows have melted snow piles." Duran added that replacement of the existing signs is limited because the agency already has the same signs in inventory.
A city staff member said crews will cut back brush on the right-of-way near the overpass and that the work is planned when weather permits. Alex Ruzicki, Woburn City engineer, suggested adding a standard crosswalk sign on the far side of the overpass so drivers see the crossing as they pass under it.
Commissioners moved and approved a request that DPW install the standard crosswalk sign "approximately 10 feet outside the overpass limit." The commission also accepted a petitioner communication updating the group on the issue.
The commission and staff said the sign placement and any reflective upgrades will be revisited after winter maintenance clears snow and reveals sight-lines and pavement striping. No formal timetable for installation was given.
