Chelsea board approves Starbucks’ amusement license for interior background music; permits still pending

The Chelsea Licensing Commission on Feb. 13, 2025, granted an amusement-and-entertainment license to Starbucks Corporation d/b/a Starbucks Coffee at 1100 Revere Beach Parkway to permit interior background music only.
Dan Bridal, representing the applicant, told the commission the request was for background music inside the coffee shop; he said the store was close to completing inspections and expected occupancy and other permits soon. “We’re seeking approval for just background music in the coffee shop, interior only,” Bridal said.
Sergeant Chung asked the applicant to confirm operating hours listed on the various license forms. Licensing staff noted the amusement license listed hours of 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, while the common victualler (food-service) license application included 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.; police and staff said the drive-thru is commonly kept open later and that evening hours may be adjusted after opening depending on business needs.
The commission moved and approved the amusement-license application by voice vote. The transcript records no roll-call tally. Staff advised the applicant to finalize the occupancy permit and food permits; the applicant indicated those approvals were imminent and that the drive-thru hours would be 5 a.m.–11 p.m. if approved.
The board welcomed the new business to the city and urged coordination with licensing and police on final inspection dates.
