The Grosse Ile Greenways & Open Space Committee voted on several administrative items at its March 11 meeting, including a recommendation to the township board on the 2025–26 budget and the committee’s goals and schedule.
The committee voted to recommend a proposed budget of $40,500 for fiscal year 2025–26 to the township board. The committee’s vote was a voice vote; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the meeting minutes. The committee chair and staff described this vote as an advisory recommendation — the full township board will review and adopt the final budget at later public meetings.
The committee also adopted its 2025–26 goals and objectives, carrying forward several items from prior years and adding a new line to “increase our social-media presence to improve communication with Grosse Ile residents.” A motion to accept the goals as amended passed by voice vote.
Nominations for committee officers produced a unanimous voice vote to approve Bill Stephenson as chair and Ray Geist as secretary.
The committee confirmed its regular meeting schedule as the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m., with no regular meetings in July, August and December and with the option to call special meetings as needed.
For community events the committee set the date for the 2025 spring Dump the Junk/Find a Treasure event for Saturday, May 3, with event hours planned from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and a drop-off cutoff at 2:00 p.m.; the committee said additional operational details will be communicated before the event.
