The Grosse Ile Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission on Thursday conducted routine organization business, elected officers, approved minutes and adopted a schedule of meeting dates while also reviewing the commission’s available balance and several project updates.
In organizational actions, commissioners nominated and elected Brian as commission chair and reappointed Christine as secretary for another year. The commission approved minutes from its Dec. 3, 2024 and Sept. 19, 2024 meetings and voted to adopt the proposed 2025–26 meeting dates (third Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., with occasional summer-flex adjustments noted). All these measures passed by voice vote during the meeting; no recorded roll-call tallies were provided in the transcript.
On finance, staff presented a summary of BPAC’s fund balance and recent revenues: the document shown to the commission listed a balance of roughly $467,071 as of Jan. 31. Commissioners discussed the length this balance must support maintenance, safety improvements, and the proposed wayfinding plan; they asked staff to verify whether the commission’s millage expires in 2026 and to schedule Derek (township finance) to brief the commission on millage timing and options at a future meeting.
On capital projects, commissioners received an update on the Bellevue Road/West River connector project. Downriver Link Greenways has submitted final plans to MDOT; the project requires Wayne County to sponsor the federal funds portion before procurement and construction can proceed. Commissioners discussed a local gap in the sidewalk adjacent to the Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club, possible mitigation options (painted bike lane, flexible delineator posts, or a larger road-closure/linear-park concept) and the need to coordinate with the country club, the planning commission and recreation staff to finalize a preferred solution.
Commissioners also discussed grants and staffing for grant-writing support, potential SEMCOG and DNR opportunities with spring deadlines, and regional coordination for trail and water-trail mapping. The commission closed the meeting without taking formal action on the wayfinding RFP; staff will collect comments and return a revised draft for review before a vote to issue the solicitation.
