Albert Lea board to interview internal and external interim candidates; hires MSBA to run superintendent search

The Albert Lea Public School District school board voted during a special meeting to consider both internal and external candidates for an interim superintendent and to retain the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) to coordinate a full superintendent search.

Board members said the interim appointment is intended to provide immediate stability for students and staff while the district begins a formal search for a permanent superintendent. The board voted unanimously, 7-0, to allow the district to “entertain all viable candidates both internally and externally” for the interim role. Later, the board approved a separate motion to post an opening for superintendent and hire MSBA to coordinate the search; that motion passed on a roll call vote of five ayes, one abstention and one nay.
