City staff requested a budget amendment to appropriate $20,000 from the general fund to cover a previously negotiated buyout of a staffing contract tied to retaining a newly hired director (ordinance number 25-12-73). Director Perry described the background and previous commission approval related to the buyout.
"As you all remember last year, we had the private director retired. We went through some ups and downs. We found Chris. We really wanted to keep her in order to buy out her contract from the staffing agency she worked with," Director Perry said. Perry said he negotiated the buyout down to $20,000 and that the commission had already approved the expenditure; the ordinance presentation was to amend the budget to appropriate the funds.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about the original figures and previous approvals; staff referenced an earlier resolution number 24-417-12 as related paperwork but did not provide full documentation during the work session. No formal vote was taken during the work session; staff presented the amendment for placement on the regular meeting agenda for formal action.
