Red Bank to partner with UTC music therapy students for ‘Active Older Adults’ program

The arrangement, staff said, is intended to give students hands-on experience while adding musical programming for older adults at the Red Bank Community Center.
"It is allowing the city of Red Bank and UTC to partner to provide music therapy students with a hands on educational experience while enhancing the Red Bank active older adults program," Greg, a city presenter, said. He explained students would engage in activities such as recorded or live music for relaxation and simple participatory music-making with small instruments; staff stressed students would not replace professional staff or provide medical treatment. Tegan Barber, the program assistant, was named as the staff supervisor who will monitor student activity and attendance.
Staff said the university would ensure students meet professional standards, including health and background checks, and that neither party would have a financial obligation under the affiliation agreement. Commissioners asked about timing; staff indicated the program could begin as soon as the agreement is signed, aiming for mid-to-late March or early April and initially offering sessions twice a month, then adjusting based on student and participant availability.
No formal motion or commission vote was recorded at the work session; the presentation was a request to enter an affiliation agreement and to proceed with program planning for the Active Older Adults offering.
