Iredell commissioners approve consent agenda: dispatch system, audit contract and acceptance of offer on Hickory Highway parcel

Among the items placed on and approved from the consent agenda, the board accepted a US Digital Designs proposal to provide automated voice dispatch for fire and emergency medical services at a total contract amount of $140,954.11. The board also approved an audit contract with Martin Starnes & Associates, CPA, for the fiscal year ending February with a not-to-exceed amount of $133,450; the county's finance staff noted the estimate reflects a high-side projection of up to 11 programs.
The board proclaimed March 2025 as Procurement Month and approved a minutes item from the Feb. 4, 2025, Board of Commissioners meeting. Construction-project updates were received for information only and required no action.
An item added during the pre-agenda meeting was consideration of an offer to purchase approximately 2.8 acres on Hickory Highway. The manager reported the offer equaled the tax value; the board accepted the offer and directed staff to initiate the upset-bid process as required by county procedure.
County staff said further research is needed on a separate proposed ordinance to increase penalties for drivers who pass stopped school buses; staff will gather information (the county manager noted Harnett County currently uses such an ordinance) and return the issue to a future meeting for additional discussion.
During the county-manager's report, staff highlighted the county's mobile health unit schedule (children's and adult immunizations, walk-in lab work, physicals and DOT physicals) and previewed the Jennings Park handing-over ceremony and grand reopening. The manager said the grand reopening is scheduled for the 20th; staff also noted that games will begin "on the 20 first," a phrasing used in the meeting that was not clarified further on the record.
The board also reported a closed-session meeting earlier in the day pursuant to North Carolina General Statute 143-318.11(a)(3) for attorney-client matters; the manager reported no action was taken in that closed session.
The consent motion was made by Vice Chair Kneider and approved by voice vote.
