Dubois County declares surplus of old computers and new peripherals

The Dubois County Board of Commissioners on an unaniminous voice vote declared a number of county computer items surplus, including older desktop PCs and a box of 15 new keyboards and mice the county does not need.

The motion came during routine business after staff described storage of older machines that can no longer serve as backups and an inventory of unopened keyboards and mice. "For now, I'd say that we declare all the items surplus," a county staff member said. The chair responded with a voice vote; commissioners said "aye" and the motion carried.

County staff told commissioners the older desktop machines have been retained as backups but are beyond useful service life, and that new keyboards and mice being supplied with new computers create a surplus of unopened peripherals. Staff suggested members of the public could request the unused keyboards and mice before the items are disposed of or otherwise handled as surplus property.

The declaration does not, by itself, specify disposal method or subsequent sale/donation arrangements; staff did not detail a surplus-property process during the discussion. No formal tally of individual votes was recorded in the meeting transcript beyond the voice vote of "aye."
