The Davenport City Civil Service Commission approved a set of certification lists covering police hires, solid‑waste drivers, finance and permitting positions.
Scott, an HR representative, presented the certification lists and explained the process for several job classes. “The 2 individuals that are on the list are already Iowa Law Enforcement Academy certified, which means we do a little bit different of a process,” Scott said, explaining that certified applicants can enter field training without attending the Police Academy. He said the two certified applicants will start March 3 and will enter the field training operations program paired with training officers for three to four months.
Nut graf: The certified lists clear candidates for hire across multiple departments and job types; commissioners approved the certification lists by voice vote, allowing departments to proceed with onboarding or academy placements.
Details from HR included the following results and requirements: the police certification list presented two already‑certified candidates who will enter field training beginning March 3; the packer driver/loader (advertised as “sanitation driver”) certification list included 15 candidates who passed written exams and background checks and will be certified today, and the position requires a high school diploma or GED, three years driving experience, six months heavy manual labor, a driver’s license at application, a CDL permit within 30 days of appointment and a Class B CDL with air‑brake endorsement within 60 days of appointment (the city provides in‑house training). The principal accounting clerk list included one candidate; the position requires an associate degree in accounting or related field and two years of accounting‑clerk experience. The route supervisor list (promotion within solid waste) included three candidates and requires a Class B CDL with air‑brake endorsement and four years of relevant experience. The senior permit technician list presented two candidates; the role requires a high school diploma (or associate’s plus two years’ experience), a valid driver’s license, and certification by the International Code Council as a permit technician within one year.
Commissioners approved the certification list by motion and voice vote. The chair announced the list was approved.
Ending: Departments may proceed with conditional offers and training under the certified lists; HR said it will present a separate certification list next month for recruits who will attend the Police Academy.
